Map paintings of imaginary landscapes and realities
Giving form to landscapes that live only in the imagination. Each piece is built through layers of contour, colour, and texture, where roads traverse the terrain, shorelines collide with the sea, and intricate paths weave through islands and bridge across rivers.
Origin
Early maps from teenage years
Before urban design, there were maps. Hand-drawn cities, invented geographies, the first attempt to make sense of the world by drawing it. Detailed, precise, obsessive, every street and block accounted for, unlike the freedom the canvas would later allow. Noslegof the Fifth, the last and largest, remains unfinished.
Scape
Urban scapes from here and there
Generic yet nostalgic, bleak yet warmly familiar. Structured like tracks on an album, with each chapter of colour crossing into the next, and collected into an album-sized publication.
Maps turned into infinite patterns
Hand-drawn maps and sketches, kaleidoscoped into mandalas. The pattern replicates with mathematical precision, drawing you deeper in, until you begin to notice the tremor in every line, and discover unexpected forms hiding inside the repetition.

Projects at the edges of everything
The edges are where it gets interesting. Through a collaboration, a leftover canvas, a Google Street View rabbit hole at 2am. Elsewhere is where those works live. The city is still the subject, but the rules are different here.

The maps came before everything else. Drawn as a teenager, continued through years of studying the built environment, through eight countries across five continents, through a life spent arriving in new cities and learning to read them.
Yuval is an urban designer by practice and a map painter by nature. The two have never been separated.
Each map is a portal, a door into landscapes you can move through, inhabit, feel under your feet, to worlds that haven't been built yet.
